The Nowra Veterinary Hospital has been servicing animals in the Shoalhaven for over 40 years. Established in 1976, the clinic began in a small house on Kinghorne before moving to a larger building slightly closer to the centre of town. While at that location, the building underwent three major renovations to keep pace with the expanding needs of our patients and clients. At the end of 2019, the Nowra Veterinary Hospital once again moved location along Kinghorne Street. We are now located at 209 Kinghorne Street in a brand new, purpose-built hospital.
To service the expanding community in the bay and basin area, we opened the Bay and Basin Animal Hospital in 2005. This branch clinic has grown busier over the years, especially during peak holiday season.
Being located on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales, we are fortunate to be surrounded by fertile farmland which is home to many of the local dairies. We have serviced many of these dairies for decades, providing on farm services in addition to in clinic laboratory services and treatment of sick calves. Horses, sheep, alpacas and goats are also regularly seen by our vets.
The small animal side of our practice services mainly dogs and cats, but we are seeing more pocket pets as they become increasingly popular. All our vets keep well abreast of the medical and surgical advancements in both small and large animals. We all regularly participate in conferences, workshops, and online distance education courses. All of this we do with one thing in mind – striving to provide the highest level of care for our patients.
Our practice regularly hosts final year veterinary students as part of their clinical rotations. We do this to give back to the profession through teaching but also to help foster enthusiasm and passion in the next generation of vets. Many TAFE students also complete their certificate IV in veterinary nursing with our practice. We have gone on to employ a number of these students after the completion of their studies.
The Nowra Veterinary Hospital is also an avid supporter of our local community. We support the Nowra Show annually as well as sponsoring several social sporting teams such as rugby, netball and touch football. Regular visits to Nowra High School provide us with the opportunity to demonstrate to and teach young adults about the veterinary profession.
